A New Approach to Legal representation

In the state of Alabama, you are required to have a minimum policy of $25,000 bodily injury per person, $50,000 bodily injury per accident, and $25,000 property damage per accident. While Alabama does not require a motorist to have Uninsured or Underinsured Motorist coverage, having no UM or UIM coverage can result in outstanding medical bills. When reviewing your insurance policy, your insurance policy will likely be in the following format; 25/50/25. Obviously, the numbers will be higher if you purchased more coverage.

In the previous example, the available coverage is $25,000 bodily injury per person, $50,000 bodily injury per accident, and $25,000 property damage. While the total available coverage is $50,000 for one accident, each person can receive no more than $25,000.

This is extremely important to know, especially when there are multiple parties involved in one accident. If the $50,000 is exhausted, there is no more money available to compensate the remaining injured parties. However, you can still file a claim with your own insurance company under your uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage so long as that additional coverage was accepted by the policy holder. It is important to note that in the state of Alabama, purchasing liability coverage is the only requirement; thus, purchasing uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage is optional.

If it is determined that you are the at-fault party, your liability coverage will pay for the other party’s injuries and property damage. Unfortunately, liability coverage does not pay for your own injuries or the property damage to your vehicle.

With that said, it is important to consult with an attorney once you’ve been involved in an accident in order to receive compensation for your injuries and/or vehicle damage.
